Ever since Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprised their respective roles from the Netflix Daredevil series in the MCU, there have been questions about its canon status in the franchise's Sacred Timeline.

Fans have been debating it for the last few years with some arguing that the return of the actors signifies that the Netflix shows were canon while some believe that they are playing new variants of their characters.

Kevin Feige has also not made any official declaration regarding the placement of the Netflix shows in the MCU which contributed to the continuing debate of their canon status.

Now, one of the executives at Marvel Studios is finally setting the record straight.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Marvel Studios executive and Echo producer Brad Winderbaum was asked about the canon status of the Daredevil Netflix show and its relation to the upcoming MCU series.

He said that he considers the Netflix version as canon in the Sacred Timeline of the MCU, especially as they have integrated some of its elements in projects such as Echo.

"I can say that up until this point, we've been a little bit cagey about what's Sacred Timeline, what's not Sacred Timeline. That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, 'We have to stick the landing with the vendors.' It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff," he explained.

"We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway."

Winderbaum continued, "But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline."

This will likely settle the debate for many fans who have been confused and questioning the Netflix show's canon status as it looks like they are going all in on integrating them into the MCU.

It is also worth noting that a recent trailer for Echo used footage from the Netflix series which is another sign that they are considering it as canon in the MCU and they are continuing what was set up in the original.

It is interesting to see how they will address the connections in Echo and Daredevil: Born Again and how far they are going on the integration of the Netflix version to the MCU.

Echo is set to premiere with all five episodes on Disney+ and Hulu this January 9.
