Daredevil: Born Again Charlie Cox

Charlie Cox is finally getting his very own series under the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the cancellation of his show on Netflix. While the cancellation hasn't been explicitly made, its non-renewal was telling but the MCU is giving him another chance to reprise the role in Daredevil: Born Again.

In October 2021, Knight Edge Media shared a rumor that Marvel Studios is interested in reviving the Netflix series with the same cast, but their returns would mean as a soft reboot.

This could mean that they would portray new versions of their respective characters, but that they would already be well-established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the events of Netflix's Daredevil show would take place in an alternate universe while the MCU versions would essentially be different variants.

Daredevil: Born Again Release Date: When Will The Marvel Series Come Out?

At Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, Kevin Feige announced Daredevil: Born Again. It was also announced at the animation panel that Cox will return to voice Daredevil in the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which is set to release on Disney+ in 2024.

Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly have 18 episodes.

As it stands, however, it looks like it will take a little longer before we see the Man Without Fear make his MCU return. According to a bombshell scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is completely starting from scratch with Daredevil: Born Again despite its production being under way.

We don't know for sure the reason behind the sudden decision to overhaul the series, but it also doesn't help that Hollywood is still halted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Marvel Studios and Disney confirmed that Charlie Cox will reprise his role as the Man Without Fear but haven't announced the rest of the cast for Daredevil: Born Again.

Still, it was reported that the studio is interested in bringing back some of the original cast, so expect the return of Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin).

Screengeek reported that Krysten Ritter will be playing Jessica Jones for an MCU project, but they weren't able to confirm what that project is.

Tony award recipient Nikki M. James recently joined Daredevil: Born Again but her role remains under wraps as reported by Deadline.

On June 18, Vincent D'Onofrio shared a new gym selfie, sparking speculation that the actor is getting into Wilson Fisk/Kingpin mode, bulking up to regain the villain's heavy physique.

While he didn't specify that this gym photo was indeed due a return as Kingpin in the upcoming Daredevil series, the comments on the tweet are full of fans speculating that the acclaimed actor is prepping himself to reprise the Marvel villain once again.

In August 2022, photos from the set of Marvel Studio's Echo revealed D'Onofrio wearing Kingpin's classic white three-piece suit. The photos were shared on the Atlanta Filming Instagram account. This hints to the origin story of the villain being featured in the series.

Come March 2023, a new rumor surfaces that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega is set join the cast of Daredevil: Born Again as Ava Ayala/ White Tiger. Echo is also reportedly joining the cast of the series.

Marvel's Daredevil ran for three seasons, releasing all the episodes on Netflix between 2015 to 2018. It has been four years since the show was cancelled on Netflix, but according to rumors, Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil in a fourth season produced by Marvel Studios.

Currently, it's impossible to tell what a potential Daredevil continuation story would be about. Rumors suggest that Marvel and Disney are interested in rebooting the characters' stories, meaning that they may not have had all of the same experiences as the Netflix characters even though their versions are similar.

So far, Charlie Cox has reprised his roles in two projects: Spider-Man: No Way Home, and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law where he gets introduced to the MCU, one being the lawyer of Peter Parker, and the other being the love interest of She-Hulk.

As for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, he already appeared on Hawkeye where he remains to be the boss of one of the biggest crime syndicates in the MCU narrative and he has Echo/ Maya Lopez in his pockets before she realized what's wrong.

When asked if Daredevil would work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sandbox, Charlie Cox is holding on to hope.

“I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that,” Cox told ComicBook. “I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done [on the show]. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it.”

When Cox was asked by IGN if Daredevil: Born Again will follow Mark Miller's run, he said:

"I don't think it means we're gonna tell the Frank Miller story of Born Again in the comics. I don't think it means that. I think it means that we made the show, it ended, and now we're making another show. It's a perfect title."

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law reveals the new costume of Charlie Cox as Daredevil with red and gold hues together with his horned mask.
