The Mandalorian Cast and Creator Pay Tribute to Carl Weathers

Legendary actor Carl Weathers passed away at the age of 76 last February 1. He died "peacefully in his sleep" at his home in Los Angeles according to the statement from the family that announced his death.

He was known for his various iconic roles throughout his career such as Apollo Creed in the earlier Rocky films, Al Dillon in the '80s classic Predator, and Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore.

Most fans today would recognize him as Greef Karga in the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. He played the role in its first three seasons and directed two episodes. He also earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in the second season.

The Mandalorian Cast and Jon Favreau Remember Carl Weathers

Creator Jon Favreau and cast members from The Mandalorian paid tribute to Carl Weathers on social media following the announcement of his death.

Pedro Pascal posted a photo of the actor alongside the caption, "Words fail," and a broken-hearted emoji in his Instagram post.

Giancarlo Esposito posted his tribute to the late actor on X by sharing a photo of him and the actor at a convention event.

"I will sorely miss my dear friend & brother Carl Weathers. You are truly one of the most wonderful human beings I have had the honor & pleasure of spending time with! I am grateful for your influence & support of all things good in my life. This is how I will always remember you," he wrote.

Katee Sackhoff expressed her shock and sadness over Weathers' passing in her Instagram post.

She wrote, "There are no words. I’m in complete shock. Carl and I found a friendship off camera bonding over our love of the PNW and the importance of family. He was so proud of his family."

Ahmed Best, who made his Star Wars return in an episode of the third season of The Mandalorian that was directed by Weathers, posted a long heartfelt tribute as he highlighted his support and generosity when they worked together.

Former cast member Gina Carano also posted her tribute to Weathers on her Instagram post and revealed that he reached out to her when she was fired by Lucasfilm following her controversial social media posts.

The late actor also served as her mentor when she was involved in the series since she is also an athlete-turned-actor like him.

"I’m going to miss my friend and mentor and that mischievous little sparkle in his eye. He was one of the greats and quite a ground breaker. I am flooded by all the precious memories we had together," she wrote.

The show's creator Jon Favreau mourned Weathers' death in a statement that was posted by Lucasfilm.

"I am heartbroken by this devastating loss. He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with," he said.

"He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.
