Moff Gideon seemingly met his demise during the third season finale of The Mandalorian as he was consumed by fire after the Imperial fleet crashed into his base in Mandalore.

Most fans have assumed that we have seen the last of the character in the episode since his death scene didn't have any strong ambiguous notions and it looked clear on the screen that he likely died during that moment.

However, as we've seen with characters such as Boba Fett and Emperor Palpatine, there are still ways in the Star Wars galaxy to cheat death and it won't be surprising at this point if Gideon was able to do the same given the past history of the franchise.

Now, the actor has weighed in on the character's potential survival from the events of the third season finale.

During a panel at MegaCon Orlando (via StarWarsNewsNet on X), Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito was asked whether he was satisfied with his character's fate in the third season finale of The Mandalorian.

After sharing his experience working on the series and his love for the character, he responded by saying that he believes that Moff Gideon could still be alive.

"So what you put at is what you receive, and I believe your mind can control a lot of your circumstance. No matter what your circumstance is, you can overcome as much of that circumstance if you're in the right mindset. I am not gonna die so therefore Moff Gideon is not dead," Esposito said.

It is an interesting soundbite from the actor since it suggests that the character may have been able to survive the events of the third season finale based on his own words.

However, while Esposito may feel that way for his character, it's still up to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to decide whether we indeed have seen the last of Gideon in the series or they'll reveal later on that he has risen from the ashes.

Right now, most fans believe that the character has died and it is likely that they'll move forward with a new big baddie when we see Din Djarin and Grogu again in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.

For now, let's wait and see how it will all play out and whether Favreau and Filoni will change their mind about the character's fate in the galaxy.

All seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
