Later this year, Netflix is set to release the upcoming Zack Snyder epic science-fiction film Rebel Moon. There is a lot of anticipation for the famed director's next project since he has discussed several times that this is essentially his own version of Star Wars.
Snyder also has an ambitious plan for the project since he is making it into a two-part film and there's no doubt that it could also become a franchise for Netflix if it becomes a success similar to Army of the Dead.
Now, the director has shared more plans about the future of the Rebel Moon franchise and it sounds like it is bigger than what we might have anticipated.
More Rebel Moon Films and TV Shows Might Be Coming
In a recent interview with Empire, Snyder revealed that he wrote a 450-page bible for the Rebel Moon universe including the backstories and lore, and teased that they might expand the franchise into a TV series and potentially a third film as well.
"When I pitched it to Netflix, the scale was a thing they wanted. They were like, ‘Well, how big could it be? How many movies?’" he said.
"That made me go, ‘Okay, if we really do this, we can sink our teeth pretty deep into this. We can’t really hit the bottom.’"
As for the plans for the third movie, the director explained that it might feature the titular rebel moon Vanna since it is not actually present in the first two films.
Snyder said, "The Rebel Moon is not the moon that they’re on. The title was conceptual, but there’s a planet named Vanna, and Vanna is the rebel moon. It’s not even in one shot of this movie!"
There is no doubt that Snyder has a very determined view on how he wants to expand the franchise into a massive endeavor for him and Netflix considering how allegedly expansive the universe is.
Obviously, those plans could only be realized if the first film ends up becoming a huge success for the streamer and the audience will express their hunger to see more of the universe that Snyder created from scratch.
For now, let's just wait and see how this will all unfold and it is also curious to see what kind of reception will it get since it will determine the franchise's future and what Snyder will do for the next several years now that he is invested to make it as big as he envisions it to be.
