To celebrate the show’s release, Netflix held the official premiere of Yu Yu Hakusho in Japan yesterday. There, it was revealed that series creator Yoshihiro Togashi visited the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action set, and he made one of the actors nervous.

In all the promotions for the show over the past months, Togashi hasn’t been part of it. During the premiere though, it was hinted how the original series creator was involved in the making of the show.

Netflix struck gold a few months ago with the success of the One Piece live-action series. After all, the show became a huge global hit; a pleasant surprise given that live-action anime adaptations are often panned.

The show’s success can be attributed in part to Eiichiro Oda. Unlike most live-action projects, Oda was involved in the Netflix series every step of the way. The results showed that this was a worthy investment of Oda’s time.

So, what about the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series? Well, for the most part, it seems that Togashi hasn’t been involved much.

This isn’t too surprising. After all, most other live-action adaptations don’t involve the original creators. For instance, Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe was mostly uninvolved in the Netflix live-action show.

There’s also the fact that Togashi continues to struggle with his back injury. In the times that he is able to work, Togashi focuses mainly on the ongoing Hunter x Hunter manga.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Togashi is entirely absent from the series. During the show’s premiere event in Japan yesterday, Koenma actor Keita Machida revealed that Togashi visited the series’ set.

Machida recounted this time when Togashi was present at the Koenma Room where Koenma, Botan, and Yusuke’s scene takes place.

The Koenma actor said that the scene was a comedic one, but it was a moment that felt incredibly tense to him. This is likely because having the original creator there is nerve-wracking.

Instead of being critical, Togashi lifted their spirits with what he said. This likely indicates that Togashi has a favorable outlook towards the new series.

The Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series is out now worldwide, exclusively on Netflix.
