With the show’s premiere just a week away, Netflix finally confirmed the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series’ official episode count. Along with this, Netflix also shared a new trailer for the series.

Despite the original anime series featuring over 100 episodes, the live-action adaptation will be much shorter, even more so than the typical anime live-action series.

Even though it’s going to be a short series, it is shaping up to be a must-see for fans, at least based on the action shown in the latest trailer.

Anime live-action adaptations have gotten a bad rap over the years, with many shows like Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop being panned by fans.

Things have changed recently in light of the One Piece live-action series which broke the anime live-action curse.

Not only was it a hit among fans, but it was also a big success in general as it topped Netflix charts around the world.

With One Piece being a huge success, Netflix is keen on replicating this with Yu Yu Hakusho, the live-action adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s (of Hunter x Hunter fame) iconic 90s manga/anime.

You can check out the show’s latest trailer here:

Based on the trailer, it looks like Yu Yu Hakusho's live-action will feature many action-packed scenes that look way more dynamic than the original 90s anime by Pierrot.

The trailer also showed off not only the four main stars but also the series’ popular supporting characters. These include the likes of Keiko, Botan, Koenma, and more.

Another major highlight in the trailer is the appearance of Younger Toguro, who is easily the most iconic villain of the series.

Along with the trailer, Netflix confirmed that the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series will only be five episodes long. This was revealed in a press release shared by Netflix earlier today.

This makes the series incredibly short. After all, even One Piece at least had eight episodes. What’s more, the fact that Younger Toguro and his team members have appeared means there will be major changes story-wise.

It’ll be interesting to see how the live-action adaptation will change up the original story to fit Toguro’s storyline in just five episodes.

At least, fans won’t have to wait much longer as the Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series will be released on December 14, exclusively on Netflix.
