Roald Dahl's 1964 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel has been adapted to a live-action movie for two times already. A third movie has been adapted from the characters. Here's what you need to know and Wonka 4DX locations for the best viewing experience.
Is Wonka a Remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
Wonka is the third live-action adaptation of the iconic children's novel. The first film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starred Gene Wilder and was released in 1971. In 2005, the film was remade with Johnny Depp starring as the titular character in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
But will Warner Bros. Pictures' Wonka adaptation be a remake of the classic? Thankfully, no. Wonka is a prequel film of reveals more about the chocolatier's roots before he became the mad genius he is most famous for.
The movie has no connection to the original film but is heavily influenced by Depp's version. And as explained by director Paul King, Wonka doesn't take place in either world.
"I didn't want to reinvent those things [the world of Willy Wonka] 'cause it felt like that '71 movie had come up with these incredibly enduring, iconic looks; what I wanted this movie to be was like a companion piece to that movie. If you imagine those people in that world 25 years earlier, that was my starting process. Eventually, he would grow into that person and that factory."

Who Stars in Wonka?
The iconic top hat-wearing character clad in a purple coat made from velvet fabric is played by Timothée Chalamet. Warner Bros. was initially looking into casting Tom Holland for the role, but Chalamet blew them away.
