Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remains a Roald Dahl classic as Timothée Chalamet reprises the role of a younger Willy Wonka. But now that we're getting a prequel story of how Wonka came to be in the first place, here is a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ending explained and how the movies are different from the book.

Dahl's book has always been meant to be catered to children. The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book is a tale that teaches children how good behavior and manners are well-rewarded.

In this case, Charlie Bucket always wins the 'game' in which Willy Wonka, the owner of the Chocolate Factory, bestowed upon him for being the kindest and most honest child among the rest of his young competitors.

This remains to be the case in the movies, the 1971 one, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and Johnny Depp & Tim Burton's 2005 movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

However, what makes these Charlie and the Chocolate Factory endings different is how each Wonka hands over his factory to Charlie.

In the 1971 movie, Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka had to put Charlie to the test for one last time. Once Charlie admitted his fault for what he stole from his factory and remained humble while doing so, Wonka decided then and there that the boy deserved to take over his chocolate factory.

As for Depp's Willy Wonka, while his film focused more on his journey to forgive his dentist of a father for not letting him enjoy his childhood with sweets and chocolates, he reconciled with his family, and eventually, joined Charlie and his family for dinner in their small home.

How Wonka's Movie Ending Will Be Better

Since Chalamet's Wonka tells the story of how Willy Wonka even made it in the chocolates and sweets industries, this, of course, would lead to an even bigger difference for an ending.

Considering that the film also features one of the early children Wonka got to spend more time with, it's likely that this is where his idea to have his factory inherited by kids came from, too.

Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl's most iconic children's book and one of the best-selling children's books of all time, Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world's greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

The Wonka ending we're seeking is quite obvious, with Willy getting the opportunity to celebrate his talents for making a booming business in selling chocolates and extraordinary candies to children.

What remains to be seen, however, is how he overcame his struggles and obstacles before his chocolate factory came to be in the world.
