What Does the Crystal Do in The New Empire?
In yet another Godzilla x Kong showdown enters the main villain of the story, Skar King. As Kong seeks out the ape base, he discovers Skar King in the Hollow Earth, where he had enslaved his own kind for selfish purposes.
In this case, the orangutan-like Kaiju wants to reach the surface world, where his powers and size threaten the balance of the world.
Before Kong can even muster up the strength to defeat Skar King on his own, Skar brings out his most powerful weapon: Shimo.
The Godzilla titan heeds his every command on its four legs, all the while firing ice beams from its mouth.
What Kong doesn't immediately realize is that Skar King is controlling the giant Kaiju with the use of a special crystal in his possession. This allows him to have Shimo follow his every wish without hesitance.
As a result, Kong is unmatched in this battle and barely escapes from Skar King and the other evil apes. But this doesn't last long in the flick.

What Happened to the Crystal on Shimo?
It was ultimately thanks to the Iwi tribe and Suko (aka baby Kong) that the crystal that was controlling Shimo got destroyed.
Initially, the Iwi tribe used an ancient invention that could smash up the crystal pyramids and set Kong's kind free. However, Skar King proved himself to be far too intimidating to go up against, leaving the task up to Suko.
As Kong comes up against Skar King for a rematch, Suko shatters the crystal and breaks the dominance Skar had on Shimo. Thus, Shimo uses her ice beams towards Skar King, defeating him once and for all.
