Following the show’s premiere back in October, the Urusei Yatsura reboot’s first half has ended with its 23rd episode. Soon after the first half’s end, it was revealed that the new Urusei Yatsura anime’s second half will be released in 2024.

The news of its 2024 release was revealed via the show’s official website and Twitter account.

Its reveal came with a special visual featuring Lum in a school uniform. This means fans of the show will have to wait a while before it resumes.

Urusei Yatsura is one of the most iconic anime of the 80s, and it is based on iconic manga artist Rumiko Takahashi’s manga of the same name.

While the original anime still holds up decently well, a remake was released by David Production (the studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) in October 2022.

Aside from modernized visuals, the reboot also features a stacked voice cast, including the likes of Sumire Uesaka (Nagatoro in Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) as Lum, as well as Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi in Attack on Titan) as Ataru Moroboshi.

While typical anime shows only get 12 or 26 episodes (1-2 cours) per season, the Urusei Yatsura remake is an exception as it was confirmed to feature four cours with 46 episodes in total.

Specifically, it was revealed that the anime will run for the length of a year, albeit non-consecutively.

This meant the anime’s first two cours (or the first half) aired from October 2022 to March 2023, with the second half coming next year.

Urusei Yatsura’s second half will feature the next 23 episodes and will be released sometime in 2024, though there was no word on when exactly the anime will be released next year.

It’s possible that the anime will return in January 2024. After all, nine months seems to be enough of a break, plus it’s hard to imagine that it will take more than a year for the show to return.

Given that the first and second cours had different opening and ending themes, it’s also likely that the second half will introduce new songs.

It should also adapt more stories from the manga, though probably not all given the manga’s length.

In the meantime, fans can watch the Urusei Yatsura English dub which began streaming on HIDIVE earlier this month.
