As the show’s second cour continues to air, the first Urusei Yatsura Blu-ray volume was revealed recently, and it features special merch with 80s & 90s-inspired Lum illustrations.
Recently, the official Urusei Yatsura website and Twitter account shared new details about the show’s first Blu-ray volume release.
There, info about the episodes and other content of the release was detailed, including special freebies.
Urusei Yatsura Remake Blu-ray Volume 1 Content
The new Urusei Yatsura series is the second anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s iconic manga series of the same name.
Its first anime was released back in the 80s and directed by Mamoru Oshii (of Ghost in the Shell fame).
Essentially, the new Urusei Yatsura is a remake or a reboot of the original anime series as it follows the same core story.
Though this new show is much shorter, as it’s confirmed to have 48 episodes while the first series had nearly 200.
Typically, anime Blu-ray releases only feature a handful of episodes. But that’s not the case with Urusei Yatsura, as Volume 1 of the home video release features Episodes 1 to 11.
Along with the first 11 episodes, the Blu-ray also comes with a special illustration card that’s drawn by series creator Rumiko Takahashi.
It also features a bonus CD, the creditless first opening and ending, audio commentary, and a booklet.
Given the number of episodes, this Blu-ray comes with a premium price tag.
Specifically, it is priced at JPY 27,500 (around USD 212).

Urusei Yatsura Blu-ray Merch, Release Date
Aside from the illustration card by Takahashi, buying the Blu-ray Volume 1 will come with an acrylic stand that features special Lum illustrations.
The illustration in the stands will depend on which store a volume is purchased from.
For starters, buying the first volume at Animate will give you a free acrylic stand with Lum in sporty running attire.
Meanwhile, buying the Blu-ray on Amazon will net you a stand with an artwork of Lum in 80s-style exercise wear.

While acrylic stands with the illustrations above will be given away for each purchase in select stores, buying the first two volumes will come with even more freebies.
Urusei Yatsura Blu-ray Volume 1 will be released on March 15, 2023.
