A recent report from Variety that detailed the current fractured state of the MCU claimed that The Marvels director Nia DaCosta started working on another project while the MCU film was still in post-production.

The tidbit in the report made some people question her actual involvement in the project and whether she was committed to the entire process, considering that Marvel Studios is also notorious for having a lot of creative control in producing their films and TV shows.

Some fans have pointed out that it's always been a norm for filmmakers to work on multiple projects at the same time and they questioned why the report was questioning DaCosta's not-so-unusual situation.

Now, the director has finally set the record straight regarding the claims in the Variety report.

In an interview with journalist Jake Hamilton, DaCosta sets the record straight on the rumors surrounding her exit from The Marvels.

She explained that she began working on another project that she was also contractually obligated to due to the MCU film's multiple release date changes, but she remained involved in its post-production remotely.

"I think there's a lot of energy and criticism around Marvel anyway. I'm not surprised. But for me personally, it's literally just they move the date of the film four different times. Instead of being a two-year process which I was deeply committed to, it became a three-and-a-half-year process," DaCosta said.

"They knew the entire time that I had an obligation and greenlit movie with people waiting for me and I pushed that and I push it again and I push it again. Eventually, we all knew if it pushes again, I'm not gonna be able to be in LA to do the rest of this in person. We figured out a way to do remote and the best process."

The director continued, "Actually, by the time I left to go to London to start prep on my next film, everyone was so clear about what the film was, what we wanted, what I wanted. It really wasn’t this dramatic sort of thing people are thinking it is."

This should clarify all the speculations and rumors surrounding DaCosta's involvement in the film and, just like what most people have pointed out, she was in a typical situation that the directors faced when they were attached to multiple projects.

Marvel Studios and DaCosta were still able to find a way to continue her involvement in the film even though she was prepping for another project and none of it should worry fans. After all, she is still doing a press tour which says a lot about her commitment to the MCU film.

The Marvels is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, November 10.
