The Flash S3E11 Thoughts: How to Be Someone’s Hero

The Flash S3E11 Thoughts: How to Be Someone’s Hero

There’s heroics everywhere for this episode of The Flash. Whether it’s seeing Kid Flash save cheerleaders from harm, Barry trying to save Cisco from certain doom, or even Vibe saving H.R. from his own capture—everyone seems bent on saving someone else.

And thus, we see the seeds of the tidbits we hear about The Flash and the upcoming fight against Savitar.

Wally is pretty much enjoying the attention, now that he gets to not only be the hero Kid Flash, but he’s got scores of fans who are happy they’re saved from certain doom. It’s a fun dynamic to watch him and Barry work as two Speedster teams, with Barry being the big bro and Wally being a nice little bro enjoying the moment.

Julian seems to have found his place in Team Flash. If anything, the toy diorama plan for saving Iris is his idea. And he pointed out a big issue that Barry is facing: the rate of his speed improvement is not enough to attain the necessary speed to save Iris when D-Day arrives. I never thought I’d find Tom Felton endearing again, especially as Julian.

We’re also beginning to see what showrunner Andrew Kreisberg meant when he said that Iris herself was affected by the knowledge of her impending doom. While Barry tells her to chill out on her own journalistic crime-fighting, she goes off to Wally to try and reinvigorate the idea of a brother-sister fighting duo. Someone’s feeling very invincible. Poor Wally, it’s easy to see how confused he gets when he doesn’t know whose side he should be on.

We do see a glimpse of the why behind the hype, and that’s her need to become someone who leaves a mark in the world. Knowing your death is coming and thinking that you haven’t done anything concrete yet is a pretty valid fear, and one that’s understandable from someone who wants a front page story to shake up the world.

And the highlight of the episode would have to be Gypsy and Cisco. Well, Cisco. The first he laid eyes on Gypsy, we know who was struck big time. And that “negotiating” tactic is surprisingly not as worn-out when it comes to Cisco using it.

Most of the episode plays out with Cisco and Gypsy at the center. The attraction is pretty obvious at the beginning for both of them. There’s a lot of flirting lacing the conversation here and there, though Gypsy’s cold bounty hunter persona surfaces more frequently.

Since her mission is to collect H.R. and bring him back, Cisco issues a duel; winner takes H.R. From there, we see how Team Flash sees Cisco as the hero Vibe. Almost everyone thinks there needs to be a sick bay at the ready, though Julian’s honesty is admirable.

The ending is predictable, to say the least. If I’m surprised by anything, it’s that Gypsy went back to her world. I get that she can Vibe easily, but with it being an inter-dimensional crime, does this mean we’ve already seen the last of her? If so, that would be a waste, given the buildup with Cisco and that excellent exit.

His Gypsy moments aside, I have to say I’m enjoying hearing a lot of the spunk and sarcasm back in Cisco. I know he’s had that rough patch with Danny dying after Flashpoint, and that had me worried for a while. But I’m glad that we finally have our boy back.

But I have to say, his last interaction with H.R. was very foreboding in a way, though I can’t put my finger on it. Or maybe it’s just me.

What I did figure out easily was what Barry told Wally at the end, and one that proves just how big his role may be in saving Iris. With just how fast Kid Flash is going, it’s pretty clear who will be able to save Iris from Savitar—and that’s him. This is a pretty obvious thing to say that still needed to be said.

Technically, a save by Wally is not just the ultimate way to twist the future. It can also put Kid Flash in a different level of being a hero, again another dynamic I can’t wait to see develop.

The Flash airs every Tuesdays on The CW.
