For weeks, we've been hearing a lot of updates regarding the casting for Superman: Legacy as director and DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn is getting closer to casting the actors who will play Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the film.

Gunn also held a screentest for the six frontrunners recently and a decision is expected to be made very soon as he and his colleagues at Warner Bros. are now making their final decision for the key roles.

Now, as they are gearing up to officially cast the main pair of the film, a couple of names have now also emerged on who might play Superman's main foe: the villainous Lex Luthor.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter revealed major updates about the casting of Superman: Legacy where they revealed that a decision from Gunn might be made this week on who will play the DCU's Clark Kent and Lois Kent.

During the first day of the screentest, Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey were paired and acted in several scenes as Clark and Lois while in makeup and wardrobe.

On the next day, Hoult, Brittney, and Corenswet did another series of screentests in costume as Superman this time around while Mackey returned to play Lois opposite them. However, her role on the second day does not indicate that she's been cast in the role.

Days later, Gunn made an assembled cut of screen tests that he showed to the committee of executives, and a decision is now expected to be made this week.

Now, as he is getting closer to making an official decision for the casting of Clark and Lois, all eyes are now also on the casting of Lex Luthor, who will be the main villain of the film.

So far, Gunn has not conducted a screentest yet for the actors who could play the villain role although the report claimed that brothers Alexander Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard are part of the shortlist. There is a chance that Hoult might also be in contention since he was previously wanted for the part.

The Skarsgards are definitely interesting choices who could play Lex Luthor since they are both talented actors. Bill was already rumored to be in talks for a major role in the DCU and it sounds like this is the character that might lead him to join the franchise.

Nevertheless, this is an exciting update since we have an idea now of who we might see play the villain opposite Superman. We should be hearing more updates about this very soon, especially once Gunn has settled on the casting of Clark and Lois.
