Nam-soon is a distant cousin of Do Bong-soon (played by Park Bo-young), who was the adorable protagonist in Strong Girl Bong-soon.

If you were able to watch this show already, you'll know where Nam-soon's power comes from. Otherwise, the answer is very simple.

As explained in Strong Girl Bong-soon, the women in their family lineage are born with superhuman strength. Their gifts date back to medieval Korea, when one of their ancestors, Park Gae-boon, attacked their enemies during the Siege of Haengju by single-handedly throwing rocks at them.

Can They Lose Their Powers?

The original show also explains that their gift come with a caveat. Bong-soon explains in the show:

"During the rebellion of Jinju peasants and slaves in 1862, another ancestor (Ga Wook-bang), sided with officials and hurt innocent people by using her powers. Her selfish desires caused her to lose her power overnight. In her last days, she suffered leprosy in solitary."

If they use their strength for a selfish or immoral purpose, she will wake up with her powers stripped from her. Bong-soon's mother, Hwang Jin-yi (played by Shim Hye-jin), ignored the curse and used her power to win a weightlifting match.

Although she used her power to boost national prestige, it was what she did after that became a problem. Jin-yi started to bully people and use her strength to intimidate others. This caused her to lose her powers overnight, true to what the warnings said.

We can also remember that in the original show, Bong-soon momentarily lost her power. But after sincerely pleading with her ancestors, she regained her powers.

While it wasn't explained why Bong-soon was allowed to earn her powers back, it's likely because she was set up by the villain in the story.

Who Are the Women Who Have Powers?
