Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Actor Rumored To Join How To Train Your Dragon Live Remake

Dreamworks’ How To Train Your Dragon franchise is getting the live-action treatment at Universal, as they confirmed back in February.

The live remake films will also involve original film writer and director Dean DeBlois, and while little to no updates have been provided on their luck casting the actors, Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Joel Edgerton is rumored to be one of them.

Edgerton is known for his role as Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker’s uncle, in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi while starring alongside Ewan McGregor as the titular character.

Now, the rumor comes from reputable entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman (via The Direct) who shared there are three actors already listed for the leading roles.

Joel Edgerton is rumored to portray Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s father in the franchise.

Apart from Edgerton as Stoick, Moana star Auli’i Cravalho is reportedly in final talks to be the live-action Astrid with Shazam! star Jack Dylan Grazer as the titular character.

It remains to be seen whether these are the final actors in play, since Universal has yet to confirm nor deny the three revealed frontrunners, so it is crucial to take this with a grain of salt for now.

Fans haven’t been on board with their childhood movie being turned into yet another live remake, especially since this remaking business seems to be going on in Hollywood quite recently.

Apart from Disney remaking The Little Mermaid, they have also pinned on Lilo & Stitch as well as Moana — both of which will be starring the original voice actors in their respective roles.

Despite having no reason other than making profit over the beloved films and franchises, fans are even more concerned on which actor gets to play which role.

In this case, Lilo & Stitch was under fire for whitewashing their cast members, specifically Nani.

Disney has yet to speak on the fans’ concerns as they previously did when The Little Mermaid faced backlash.

The How To Train Your Dragon live-action film is currently slated to premiere in theaters on March 14, 2025.
