Shazam! Star Reportedly Cast To Lead How To Train Your Dragon Live-Action

A live-action remake of the classic How To Train Your Dragon is still in development, and according to a rumor, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Jack Dylan Grazer is set to lead the film.

Variety previously confirmed that the live remake is being developed at Universal with original film writer and director Dean DeBlois.

While little to no updates have been provided, a scooper just unveiled three actors portraying the major roles.

Reliable entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman (via The Direct) has recently shared that Grazer has been rumored to play the leading role, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, in the franchise.

Grazer has been in prominent roles in the past, which, apart from being Freddy Freeman in the Shazam! sequel, he has also played Eddie Kaspbrak in IT and IT Chapter Two.

There are also two more actors confirmed to take the remaining starring roles:

Moana star Auli’i Cravalho is reportedly in final talks to play Astrid Hofferson, Hiccup’s love interest, with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Joel Edgerton set to play Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s father.

It remains to be seen whether this is actually true or if the actor is simply a frontrunning choice for the role, however, this should be taken with a grain of salt for now, since nothing has been confirmed yet.

Fans have never been on board with the entire thing, especially since the original animated films were already perfect as they were.

Now that Jack Dylan Grazer has been reported to take the spotlight in the live-action, fans are even more furious with the direction of the remake.

While some have been suggesting a different fan cast for the titular role, others have also brought up that Grazer is not suitable to portray Hiccup, given his sexual abuse allegations.

Fans may have the chance to lure this remake on a different course, but for now, we’ll have to make do with what the industry is trying to sell.

The How To Train Your Dragon live-action film is currently slated to premiere in theaters on March 14, 2025.
