Star Wars: Ahsoka Series Finally Confirms Lars Mikkelsen as Live-Action Thrawn

It's officially happening: Lars Mikkelsen will reprise his role as Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Ahsoka series. Mikkelsen has finally confirmed that he will play the live-action version of the character he voiced in Star Wars Rebels.

Lars Mikkelsen has just made an appearance at the Ahsoka panel at Star Wars Celebration 2023. The House of Cards star revealed that show co-creator Dave Filoni reached out to him and asked him to be part of the upcoming show.

"We met through Skype," Mikkelsen said (via Comicbook.com). "At some point, finishing up that series, David asked me, 'Have you ever been to LA?' I went, 'No, no.' 'We're gonna make that happen,' he said...I've never been on a set with so much passion, I must say. People are so passionate about bringing this to life for you guys."

Thrawn's casting is certainly the one everyone has been waiting for. After all, there have been speculations that Lars Mikkelsen would appear in Ahsoka but the Sherlock actor had previously denied the casting. Luckily, he was only hiding the truth and we can't wait to see him as the live-action Thrawn this August.

Lars Mikkelsen is the first Star Wars Rebels voice actor who will reprise his role in Ahsoka. David Tennant will also appear as Professor Huyang, the character he played in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

We already know that Rosario Dawson will return as Ahsoka Tano while Natasha Liu Bordizzo is taking over the role of Sabine Wren. The new teaser offered our first glimpses at Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.

The series will also feature Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth. The former recently reprised her role in Andor while the latter went up against Ahsoka in The Mandalorian Season 2.

Ahsoka premieres on Disney+ in August 2023.
