Remember what split the Avengers up back in Captain America: Civil War? Iron Man and Captain America clashed with their own ideals causing division within Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Though their battle resulted in one of the most iconic fight scenes in the MCU, this distorted the allegiance among the team members, thus explaining why they spent years being apart until Thanos finally emerged in Infinity War.

Thinking about it now, the Sokovia Accords was a pretty huge deal to strike against the MCU heroes, but has it still been active even after the events of Avengers: Endgame?

Wanda Maximoff had just joined the Avengers after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Seeking to repent for the torment she and her deceased twin brother Pietro inflicted back in Sokovia, Wanda helps Captain America, Black Widow, and Sam Wilson on a mission to save the people in Lagos.

Unfortunately, instead of saving the people, Wanda’s powers caused more damage than good, leading to more death counts of innocent people.

This then led the United Nations to have the Avengers sign the Sokovia Accords, a set of legal documents to ensure that Earth’s Greatest Defenders would oblige to the rules and restrictions the government would be setting up for their heroes.

The Sokovia Accords were essentially going to filter the missions the Avengers should risk taking, considering that this secures the safety measures towards the people as well as public and government properties from destruction.

Under the Accords, the Avengers are to provide their biometric samples along with co-signing the legal papers as a part of their alliance with the United Nations.

To Tony Stark, this was the obvious solution to keep the peace. To Steve Rogers, however, who always believed that Earth’s protectors shouldn’t need constraints, the Sokovia Accords were going to hold them back as a team in doing the right thing.

Thus, the Avengers team was split after Captain America: Civil War, only to come back when the previous big bad in the MCU, Thanos, threatened Earth.

The Sokovia Accords Were Repealed, But Not After Avengers: Endgame

At the beginning of Infinity War, Rhodey is seen having a holographic meeting with Secretary Ross trying to search for Captain America’s team.

They had two concerns: ‘criminals’ (for not signing the Accords) in need of defending Earth from Thanos and his army, and that they were looking for Vision.

As War Machine said, “You know, they’re only criminals because you’ve chosen to call them that, right, sir? If it weren’t for those Accords, Vision would’ve been right here.”

It would be unruly if the Sokovia Accords were suddenly repealed right after Avengers: Endgame occurred, considering it dealt one of the biggest environmental threats and damages to Earth.

One of the series that came after Endgame was WandaVision, in which the Scarlet Witch had stolen Vision’s Vibranium-made body from SWORD’s building and enslaved the entire town of Westview to her bidding.

At the time, Jimmy Woo explained that Wanda had violated the Accords, which confirms that it was indeed still active after Endgame.

It wasn’t until She-Hulk: Attorney At Law came into the picture that the MCU confirmed the Sokovia Accords had been repealed, thanks to Matt Murdock unveiling this information in court while facing She-Hulk.

Murdock utilized the repealing in defense of his client in preserving the anonymity of superheroes, unlike when the Accords were still in use by the UN.

The repealing of the Accords is likely due to the fact that the Multiverse’s dominant involvement in the MCU will involve much more interdimensional battles, which would involve outer space.

It could also mean that this would be out of the United Nation’s hands when the time comes for another big bad to conquer the MCU once again.
