The final scene of the second episode of Secret Invasion revealed that Nick Fury's wife Priscilla is actually a Skrull. However, they haven't made it clear yet whether he is aware of her real nature or she is hiding it from him all these years.
Nevertheless, it is certainly going to be a major plot point for Nick Fury's arc in the series moving forward and it is interesting to see how they'll handle their relationship, especially if Priscilla's Skrull status is indeed a secret.
The Secret Invasion Director Addresses What the Skrull Reveal Is All About
Speaking with Deadline, Secret Invasion director Ali Selim addressed the major twist about Nick Fury's wife in the second episode where he revealed that the character was aware of her Skrull status in the script.
However, by the time they filmed and edited the scene, they decided to make it ambiguous to the audience instead.
"In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn’t know. We ultimately edited it in a way that made people feel like, ‘I wonder if he knows or not,'" he said.
"I can’t tease anything forward about his wife. The conversation in the lobby after the premiere the other night was, ‘Does he know she’s a Skrull? Or does he not?’ And I think either way works."
Selim also hinted about what's to come between Nick and Priscilla in the upcoming episodes and how they are going to explore their relationship.
"I think his wife is a support and a complication, and I think you will learn interesting things about their relationship... going forward," the director added.
"But ultimately, that is the personal issue that he needs to confront to make this make sense to him."
The reveal in the second episode was certainly a huge reveal regarding what we know about Nick Fury and there is no doubt that it will add up to the intensity of the next episodes moving forward.
It is curious to see how it will unfold throughout the rest of the series and whether Priscilla will also be part of the action given the major conflict involving her species.
