BTS Suga bid goodbye to Ryuichi Sakamoto after learning about the Japanese legend’s death.

Ryuichi Sakamoto’s official Twitter page and his record label, Commons, confirmed the news about the musician’s passing. Musicians, colleagues, and fans around the globe expressed their heartbreak after losing the musician.

BTS Suga Pens Short But Heartfelt Message After Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Death

Suga showed his sympathy to Ryuichi Sakamoto’s family and respect for the late Yellow Magic Orchestra member.

He took to Twitter after the announcement of the news and shared a photo on his Instagram Story, which has the text, “Teacher, I hope the faraway journey is peaceful. R.I.P SAKAMOTO RYUICHI.”

Before Ryuichi Sakamoto’s death, Suga met the keyboardist in September during his visit to Tokyo. In the Japanese legend’s essay How Many Full Moons Will I See in the Future for Japanese literary magazine Shincho, Ryuichi Sakamoto revealed that he had a private meeting with Suga.

Although it was a short time, they reportedly got the chance to share musical views involving generation, age, and nationality.

"[SUGA] thinks so much about music that one could think he has no other hobbies," the late musician said.

Ryuichi Sakamoto Dead at 71

The statements from Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Twitter page and record label were released after his family held a private funeral for the musician.

According to the updates, the famed composer passed away on March 28 after his long battle with cancer. He was first diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer in 2014, leading him to take a year-long break from the music industry. When he returned the following year, he revealed he was already undergoing treatment but reportedly expecting it might return due to his weakened immune system.

After going into remission in 2021, he was diagnosed with rectal cancer.

Ryuichi Sakamoto still worked on music in the years leading to his death. His last album will be released on May 5.
