Reborn as a Vending Machine might just be one of the most ridiculous isekai anime in recent memory. Despite its rather gimmicky premise, Reborn as a Vending Machine seems to be a success, enough that a Season 2 was announced.

The show’s second season renewal was confirmed shortly after the first season’s final episode. This announcement was made via the anime’s official website and X (formerly Twitter) account.

It’s hard to exactly quantify an anime series’ success, but given how quickly the show was renewed, it seems that it has exceeded expectations.

Reborn as a Vending Machine Is More Than Just a Meme It Seems

Isekai is arguably one of the most popular anime genres today. After all, not a season goes by without a new isekai anime series.

Among the numerous seasonal isekai, Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon might just be the most ridiculous. That’s because it follows a protagonist who transforms into a vending machine.

The series begins with a middle-aged vending machine otaku who is accidentally killed in a traffic accident. He soon wakes up in a fantasy world, but instead of an adventurer, he’s reborn as a vending machine.

Because of how ridiculous the show’s premise is, it quickly became a meme among anime fans ahead of its premiere.

Memes might drum up interest in an anime, as what happened with Bocchi the Rock!, but they don’t always positively affect viewership.

In the case of Reborn as a Vending Machine though, it seems that the meme-worthy premise worked to its advantage.

Shortly after Episode 12 of Season 1 aired, Reborn as a Vending Machine announced that it had been renewed for Season 2.

The renewal was shared alongside a special illustration of Boxxo and Lammis – the series’ protagonists. This illustration was made by the anime’s chief animation director, Naoki Yamauchi.

It’s not always the case, but a quick renewal usually signals that an anime is successful. So, even without hard numbers, it should be fair to say that Reborn as a Vending Machine is more than just its meme-worthy premise.

For now, fans will have to wait a while for the next season as there’s no word yet on a potential release date or window.

In the meantime, anime fans who may have written off the series ahead of Summer 23 can watch all 12 episodes of Season 1 on Crunchyroll.
