Meet Princess Akemi of the Tokunube Clan!
In 17th-century Japan, women like Princess Akemi were treated with discrimination. Women, regardless of status, were expected to either be loving wives to their husbands or consorts in brothels.
There’s no room for women to stand up and speak for their dreams and desires at all.
Princess Akemi’s dilemma lies with her father, Lord Daichi of the Tokunube Clan, who wants to marry her to someone, regardless of age, who will bring more benefit to the clan.
While most princesses will agree, Princess Akemi’s stubborn and assertive demeanor stops her from giving in to her father’s wishes.
Her dreams and aspirations are bigger than her father’s, and she doesn’t want to be locked in a golden cage forever.
True enough, Princess Akemi has another plan on her mind, which doesn’t include marrying a rotten old guy whom her father wants her to be of service for the clan’s sake.
Instead, her eyes are set on another man of high caliber, who, despite not being born into a well-off family, is respected and valued in the art of the sword.
It took a lot of effort for Princess Akemi to convince her father, who doesn’t like his decisions questioned, to change his mind.
She even sought the help of Seki, her loyal attendant, to rouse her father’s attention to Taigen, the top student of the Shindo Dojo.
Everything was going according to Princess Akemi’s plans, but after the blue-eyed samurai Mizu stripped Taigen’s honor, her efforts to change her destiny in contrast to her father’s wishes were all for nothing.
Princess Akemi’s engagement with Taigen broke off, and Daichi forced her daughter to marry the youngest son of the Shogun, Takayoshi, who’s renowned for his brutal and cruel ways.

Does Princess Akemi End Up With Taigen?
Princess Akemi did not end up with Taigen in the first season of Blue Eye Samurai. She turned Taigen down by the end of the series after realizing what she needed to do and accomplish in her life.
She wants to take control of her fate and not let anyone dictate it on her behalf again. Their reunion ends up being bitter, with Taigen on the losing side.
At first, Princess Akemi was more than determined to end up with Taigen, even after her engagement with him broke off.
Not only did she refuse her father’s wishes, but she also ran away from home to find Taigen, who wanted to get his honor back from Mizu.

Does Princess Akemi End Up With Takayoshi?
Princess Akemi chose to stay with her new fiancé, Takayoshi, in the belief that she could do more with him by her side instead of Taigen in Blue Eye Samurai.
This is after Princess Akemi understands Takayoshi, who’s a meek, gentle, and understanding man whose brutal actions are being forced upon him by his mother.
She relates to Takayoshi, and she decides to make him fall in love with her not only on a physical level but also on an emotional level.
At the end of the first season of Blue Eye Samurai, Princess Akemi aims to rebuild the royal family and re-establish its rule with Takayoshi by her side.
