It looks like more Pokemon animated works are going to be made soon, as The Pokemon Company hired former Netflix animation department executive Phil Rynda.

Rynda revealed his new position at The Pokemon Company via his personal LinkedIn, and it points to some big plans from the company regarding its animation division.

While Pokemon is well-known for its games, the anime series based on the games is arguably just as popular, if not even more well-known among some circles.

Phil Rynda joins The Pokemon Company as the new director of original animation.

While he has yet to reveal what projects he will oversee, Rynda mentioned that his role will cover TV shows, films, and other content.

Previously, Rynda was the director of creative leadership and development for original animation on Netflix. But he was let go by the streaming giant recently, alongside other staff members.

Before working as an executive though, Rynda has been involved with a wide range of well-known animated works.

For instance, Rynda worked as an artist for popular American animated titles, including the likes of Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, among others.

His artist days saw him working on shows for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Television Animation.

Along with these shows, Rynda also worked on The Lego Movie by Warner Bros., which was a major hit back when it was released in 2014.

Given that Rynda will oversee Pokemon TV animated shows, it’s likely that he will manage the upcoming US release of Pokemon Horizons.

This series is highly anticipated as it’s the first Pokemon anime to not feature Ash as the protagonist.

Aside from this, there’s also an upcoming stop-motion animated series titled Pokemon Concierge that is set to release on Netflix soon.

Both Horizons and Concierge will be released on Netflix, so it’s no surprise that The Pokemon Company hired Rynda, given his experience working with the streaming giant.

Along with these titles, more new projects will likely be revealed soon following this hire.

Though we’ll likely have to wait a while before we get announcements about them.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to the Pokemon Ultimate Journeys anime’s final episodes, which will be released soon on Netflix.
