Phoenix: Eden17 is now streaming on Disney Plus with a total of four episodes. It tells the story of Romi (Romy) and her challenges on a planet called Eden17, in the hopes of building a thriving society similar to Earth. After finishing the anime’s four episodes, will there be a Season 2 of Phoenix: Eden17?
Studio 4°C’s Phoenix: Eden17 adapts the sixth volume of Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix manga, entitled Nostalgia.
The sixth volume is divided into two chapters and has more than 400 pages. While the anime adapts Romi’s storyline from the manga, it has made some significant changes to the plot, particularly in the ending.
Is Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 Happening?
As of writing, Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 is not yet confirmed. However, this doesn’t mean that viewers have finally finished watching Romi’s story on their screens!
The good news is that Studio 4°C, the same studio behind Phoenix: Eden17, is also working on an anime film that will retell the story of Romi on the planet Eden17.
This film is entitled Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower and will follow the same story about Romi, except it will have a different ending.
Interestingly, Phoenix: Eden17 also has a different ending from its source material. Hence, it will be entertaining to see what the ending will be for Romi and the other characters in the upcoming film.
Because of this, a second season of Phoenix: Eden17 is unlikely to happen, given that Romi’s story has already been completed in the anime’s four episodes.
There’s also the upcoming film, which will tell yet another story about Eden17.
But if Season 2 does happen in the future, it will most likely tell a different story from Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix manga, which can be pulled from Dawn, Resurrection, Future, Early Works, and so on.
Personally, I would love to see Dawn adapted again into an anime due to its engaging storyline.
When Will Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 Be Released?
If Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 gets confirmed, we are guessing that it will be released sometime in 2024, most likely in the same anime season as the first installment, based on the usual schedule of anime titles having their second season.
But given the release of Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower, we are also guessing that a Season 2 will be possible by 2025.
It will either be a sequel to Romi’s story or a collection of events that were omitted from the first season.
It’s difficult to determine when Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 will be released, as it was implied that Romi’s story has been completed already.
But if a plot twist happens and the producers decide to carry on with yet another plot about Romi, then the above assumptions are plausible.
What to Expect From Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2
Phoenix: Eden17 Season 2 can either be a collection of events omitted from the first season or a new story that will come from the other volumes of the Phoenix manga.
If so, the title for Season 2 will obviously change depending on the decision of the producers.
On the other hand, if the second season decides to adapt the omitted events in the manga series, like in the case of Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, there will be more stories for the producers to tell.
After all, the Nostalgia manga and Phoenix: Eden17 differ from each other a lot; from the time Romi and George set foot on Eden17, to the birth of Romi’s multiple sons, to the absence of the hermaphrodite Norva, a second season will shed light on these missing plot elements.
