Netflix’s One Piece has broken the anime live-action curse as it became a huge hit, both critically and on the charts. Now, it’s confirmed that the One Piece live-action series has scripts ready for Season 2, though the strikes have halted its production.

In an interview with Variety, Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein confirmed that the studio is ready with scripts once the second season is greenlit. However, a second-season renewal has not yet been announced.

It won’t be surprising if it does get confirmed, especially given how successful the show has been.

Despite the curse of most live-action anime adaptations, the One Piece live-action show gained a lot of hype ahead of its release. Thankfully for Tomorrow Studios and Netflix, the show delivered on the hype.

Shortly after the show’s release, One Piece gained lots of positive reviews, enough that it got a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fan response has also been great based on reactions on social media.

Along with reviews, the series has also topped Netflix TV Show charts in over 80 countries around the world. To be specific, the show got over 18 million views during its premiere week.

Based on its views and reception, the One Piece live-action series is undoubtedly a success, though it’s not in the league of Netflix’s biggest hits like Wednesday.

Despite this, the series has done much better than projected. Specifically, Marty Adelstein said that Netflix told Tomorrow Studios in post-launch calls that the show has exceeded expectations.

This should mean that Season 2 is on the cards soon, that is if the strikes get resolved ASAP.

One Piece Live-Action Season 2 Scripts Are Ready, But Production Affected by Strikes

In Adelstein’s Variety interview, he revealed that One Piece Live-Action Season 2 scripts are now ready. This points to the confidence that Tomorrow Studios has in the series.

Production on it is not going to begin anytime soon given that both the Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes are still ongoing.

If the strikes do get resolved, Adelstein said that they could launch the second season in as quickly as one year to 18 months.

For the second season, it’s likely that Eiichiro Oda will also be heavily involved given how well his collaboration with Tomorrow Studios worked for Season 1.

That all hinges on whether the strikes get resolved and if Netflix renews the show. After all, Netflix has not yet announced any plans for a second season.
