Netflix’s One Piece series has proven that it is unlike most other live-action anime adaptations. Following its premiere, the One Piece live-action series has gotten great reviews from critics and fans alike.

Now that reviews are up for the series, fans will be happy to know that this series is a hit with critics based on its Rotten Tomatoes score. Fan response in social media has also been highly positive.

The same can’t be said for other live-action anime adaptations though, especially some of the Netflix originals which have been critically panned.

As with any live-action show or movie based on anime, many fans were concerned that Netflix and Tomorrow Studios wouldn’t be able to live up to the original One Piece anime and manga.

When the promotions for it started though, fans quickly got excited as it looked great from the previews. It also helped that Eiichiro Oda is 100% behind the adaptation.

For those who still have some reservations, they’ll be glad to find out that Netflix’s adaptation is actually pretty good based on critic reviews.

On Rotten Tomatoes, One Piece has an 82% Certified Fresh rating (as of this article’s writing), indicating that most critics liked it. Many of these critics praised the show’s cast and its fun story and action set pieces.

Of course, there are some criticisms aimed toward some of the deviations from the source material. But overall, the reception is positive. The same can’t be said for Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop or Death Note.

More importantly, fans are also mostly loving the show.

It may have only been a day since its premiere, but many have already binge-watched the entire eight episodes of the series.

Going by X (or Twitter) reactions, most fans had a great time watching the show, with many praising the impressive fight scenes and the cast’s chemistry on screen.

Praise was also given to the show’s art direction, with the creative logos for each episode drawing particular attention.

Fans on the One Piece subreddit have been a bit more measured with their praise as the differences from the manga and the anime have been acknowledged.

While the One Piece live-action series can’t and doesn’t satisfy every fan, reception has been mostly positive for now.

However, it remains to be seen if that will be the case in the coming days, especially as most fans will only be able to watch the entire season this weekend.
