During the release of Echo last week, Marvel Studios and Disney+ officially integrated the Netflix Defenders shows into the MCU canon as the six shows were included in the "Timeline Order" tab alongside the other films and TV shows in the franchise.

A lot of fans were delighted by the news after years of debate and confusion regarding the shows' canon status in the MCU's Sacred Timeline, especially as Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio made appearances again in their respective roles.

It remains to be seen how connected the upcoming street-level MCU projects will be to the former Netflix shows, but it is exciting nonetheless that they are now essentially part of the larger MCU saga.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio explained the decision behind the MCU canonization of the Netflix Defenders shows.

He revealed that the creative overhaul of Daredevil: Born Again led to Marvel Studios' decision to integrate all six Netflix Defenders shows into the MCU canon.

"During our restart of all the creative on Daredevil: Born Again, all the creatives got together and said, 'Look, this is how we’ve got to do it now.' So we are for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original Daredevil, and that’s a great thing," the actor said.

"It brings in a lot of cool stories and all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons. So we now get to start this Born Again situation with all of that history behind us and the outcome of all that history. So we’re all talking about Daredevil: Born Again in those terms now."

Based on D'Onofrio's comments, the events of the original Netflix show will play a part in the upcoming MCU series and they have to decide to embrace its history when we see Matt Murdock again in his solo adventures.

Hopefully, other characters such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are also going to be reintroduced again as fans would love to see them again and find out what they're up to now in the present-day timeline of the MCU.
