Originally set to release later this year, TOHO announced that the highly-anticipated Naoko Yamada movie Kimi no Iro has been delayed to 2024.

The announcement of the film’s delay was made via the TOHO official Twitter account with only a short message acknowledging the delay.

With the anime getting delayed, fans of Yamada’s work will need to wait a while longer before more info is revealed.

But even if there’s still not much known about the movie, it’s still one that many fans are excited about given its stacked staff list.

Perhaps the film’s biggest draw is director Naoko Yamada. She is one of the most well-known directors in the anime industry today thanks to her renowned works such as A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, and Sound! Euphonium.

While Yamada has a long list of works with Kyoto Animation, she has recently begun working with Science SARU, the animation studio by Eunyoung Choi and Masaaki Yuasa (of Inu-Oh and Devilman Crybaby fame).

With Science SARU, Yamada directed the anime series The Heike Story which was released in 2021.

Since then, Yamada has been busy with her next Science SARU project, the Kimi no Iro film.

Joining Yamada is Reiko Yoshida, a frequent collaborator whom Yamada has worked with on her previous projects as a scriptwriter and script supervisor.

Also part of the staff is Kensuke Ushio, the renowned musical composer who has also worked with Yamada on multiple projects. Though Ushio is currently known for being the composer of Chainsaw Man's score.

This upcoming film was revealed back in late 2022, but instead of getting a trailer, the movie only got a teaser visual.

Still, some details about the film’s story were revealed. Kimi no Iro follows Totsuko, a high school girl who can see the emotions of people in the form of colors.

Soon, Totsuko meets a girl with a beautiful color, as well as a boy who is trying to form a band. Thus, the three form a band.

Originally, the movie was set to release in Fall 2023. But now, it was revealed that the film will instead be released sometime in 2024.

Currently, there’s no word yet on a release date or release window for the Kimi no Iro anime film.
