My Home Hero was a rather divisive Spring 23 anime because of its story and animation. Despite this, fans have some new projects to look forward to as My Home Hero is getting a live-action TV series and film soon.

These new live-action projects were announced recently, and the series is set to air on Japanese TV in just around two months. Meanwhile, the film is targeting a release in the first half of 2024.

Having two live-action projects is unexpected, especially considering that a second anime season has not been announced yet.

The My Home Hero anime was made by Tezuka Productions, the studio behind shows such as Girlfriend, Girlfriend, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses, and Dagashi Kashi 2.

While many of Tezuka Productions’ recent shows are lighter affairs, My Home Hero is an exception as it’s a crime drama that follows Tetsuo Tosu as he discovers that his daughter is being abused by her boyfriend Nobuto.

After Tetsuo discovers that Nobuto has killed his previous girlfriends, he murders Nobuto and hides the body.

Soon though, Tetsuo finds himself in hot water with Nobuto’s father who is part of a powerful yakuza group.

It’s not clear if the anime was successful enough to get a second season, but it seems that there’s enough interest in it that a live-action TV series has been announced.

Alongside the announcement, a trailer for the TV show was also shared, giving fans a taste of what to expect.

Live-action TV drama adaptations like these are not new as anime like Ya Boy Kongming! will also get the live-action treatment. But what makes My Home Hero unique is that it’s also getting a film.

Alongside the TV drama reveal, a My Home Hero movie was also announced which will feature the same cast as the live-action drama.

No specific details were revealed about the story, though it’s likely that the movie will serve as a continuation of the TV drama, especially as it’s set to air after the drama’s TV broadcast.

The TV series is set to release in Japan on October 24, 2023, via MBS and TBS. Meanwhile, the film will be released in Japanese cinemas in Spring 2024.

Currently, there’s no word yet on international release plans for the series.
