Fans are still waiting for a second-season announcement, but at least they can look forward to the upcoming drama. Recently, the Ya Boy Kongming! live-action series got its first teaser trailer, which gave fans their first look at Zhuge Liang Kongming in real life.
This new trailer was shared on the show’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, and while it put the spotlight on the main character Kongming, the teaser also showed off the other cast members.
Finally, the show’s official premiere date has been announced, and it’s much closer than many expected.
Ya Boy Kongming! Drama Trailer Surprisingly Features Chinese Narration
Ya Boy Kongming! became a huge trending anime last year thanks in large part to its funny premise where the legendary Chinese strategist Zhuge Liang Kongming gets transported into modern Japan.
Although the anime and this upcoming drama are in Japanese, the live-action teaser trailer features a Chinese-language voiceover courtesy of Kongming actor Dean Fujioka.
This is quite unexpected, especially considering that the show is in Japanese. But it makes sense given that Zhuge Liang comes straight out of China. You can check out the trailer here:
What’s cool about this voiceover is that it was made because Fujioka is fluent in Chinese thanks to spending time on activities in Hong Kong and Taiwan some years ago.
Based on the trailer though, Kongming will eventually speak Japanese in the series, but he’ll likely only know Chinese at the start.
Aside from the protagonist, this new trailer also showcases the series’ other characters, including Eiko Tsukimi, Owner Kobayashi, and more.

Live-Action Ya Boy Kongming! Series Reveals September Release Date
While it may not have become as popular as the likes of Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock!, it’s fair to say that Ya Boy Kongming! was still one of the
highlight shows of last year.
Even for those who weren’t big fans of the comedy anime, it’s undeniable that the show’s opening theme Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a huge earworm.
Despite the show’s success, it hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet. But there is hope for a continuation, especially as the show has become popular enough to get a live-action adaptation.
This upcoming live-action drama was announced back in May and is being produced by Fuji TV. It will premiere in Japan on September 27, 2023.
Currently, there’s no word yet on release plans for the series outside of Japan.
