Monster Season 2 is coming, and Netflix has dropped an official trailer to reveal its next subject. After featuring the life of the cannibalistic serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters), the next focus will be on the two brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Netflix renewed Monster for another season, making it a true crime anthology series that intends to tell “stories of other monstrous figures” who have greatly impacted society. So, what story does Monster Season 2 have to tell this time?

Netflix’s Monster Season 2

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lyle and Erik were convicted of murdering their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, at their Beverly Hills home in 1989.

Considering the show will feature two serial killers this time, its umbrella title will be pluralized and officially be called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Netflix even dropped a quick teaser to announce the second season’s coming with the real-life 911 call of Lyle. It also revealed a 2024 release date.

Aside from that, the streaming giant also claimed it had “exclusive access” to the siblings for an upcoming documentary.

The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez

Screen Rant noted that the story of Lyle and Erik could potentially rival the first season’s Dahmer.

The two were tried twice in court. The first one ended in a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury while they were found guilty of murder in the first degree in the second trial.

That said, the Menendez brothers became a media sensation in the early 1990s and were excessively covered fictionally and in documentaries.

During their trial, Lyle and Erik claimed they ended up murdering their parents “out of fear for their own lives” after suffering “lifelong sexual, emotional, and physical abuse.”

However, the prosecution opposed their claim, arguing they did it to inherit their father’s multimillion-dollar estate.

New Peacock Docuseries

The announcement of Monster Season 2 came after the Menendez brothers’ case came to light again following the new Peacock docuseries Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.

The Menudo former member Roy Rossello claimed Jose sexually assaulted him as a teenager.
