The TV adaptation of the 1987 classic movie Fatal Attraction has dropped on Paramount+.

Considering it derives from Adrian Lyne's iconic psychological thriller featuring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, how does the series differ from the film?

The Fatal Attraction TV series features Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan as the lead stars, Dan Gallagher and Alex Forrest. Compared to the almost two-hour film version, the show is said to be much different. But how?

Fatal Attraction: TV Series Vs. Movie

With eight episodes, the series has a lot to explore and features a few more characters.

In an interview with Screen Rant, the show's stars, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, and Brian Goodman, talked about how they brought something new to the TV adaptation.

For Wilson, who plays the role of Detective Earl Broker, the title is just a name.

"It's just Fatal Attraction; a completely different story but the bones of the original idea, but it's just expanded," he explained.

Tobi Huss, the newly added character Mike Gerard, added the series is a "who different reinterpretation" of the movie.

"No one expects the musical aspect of it," he said.

Fatal Attraction TV Series' Plotline

The Fatal Attraction TV series has the same plotline as the movie. It follows the story of a married man, Dan, who has an affair with Alex.

Knowing that Dan is married to Beth, Alex can't accept the fact that their relationship isn't going anywhere.

But compared to the film, the series explores multiple timelines to give it a wider window to show the aftermath of Dan's actions.

Hence, for Caplan, the show's story "feels so different."

"The cat we're trying to skin is so different than the one that the film did that hopefully people will get the fun nods and the clear inspiration but see it as its own," she explained to Screen Rant.

Alternatively, Jackson wants to show that his character is not as innocent as in the movie.

"The movie really presents him as the victim of circumstance, even though he's the one that committed the act," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"I thought it was interesting when you really start to examine the type of personality that would take this, from the outside, seemingly perfect life and put it in jeopardy to do something so selfish. Why does a man choose to do this?" he continued.
