Warner Bros. has been working on the long-gestated film adaptation of Minecraft as it is set to finally begin production soon after months of delay due to the Hollywood strikes last year.

So far, the plot details of the film are being kept under wraps. Jason Momoa is starring and co-producing the project. It is set to be his next major project following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom last holiday season.

Now, we have another casting news for the film as they have recruited a high-profile actor-comedian to join the ensemble.

Deadline has confirmed that Jack Black is joining the cast of Minecraft. He is set to play the role of Steve, who is considered to be the mascot/main character of the video game.

It won't be the comedian's first rodeo in a video game movie since he voiced Bowser in last year's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which currently holds the record as the highest-grossing video game movie of all time.

Following the reports of his casting, Black posted a photo of himself reading Minecraft Basics for Dummies book on Instagram with the caption, "An actor prepares."

He is set to reprise the voice role of Po in Kung Fu Panda 4, which is set to release this March. He also notably had a guest role in the third season of The Mandalorian last year where he appeared alongside Lizzo.

Aside from Momoa and Black, also part of the cast are Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks, Wednesday breakout Emma Myers, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. Jared Hess is directing the film.

Knowing Black's talent as an actor and comedian, he is definitely a great addition to the cast and it also suggests that the film will have a comedic tone.

It is also interesting that he will play an established character from the game although his casting as Steve might be questionable for some fans since he is not necessarily the first actor that they might think of in the role.

We can look forward to more casting news in the coming days or weeks as they are getting closer to their production start date.

Minecraft is slated for release in theaters on April 4, 2025.
