Marvel Studios Reportedly Reducing Film Production in Future Phases

2023 is NOT Marvel’s year. Since the beginning of Marvel Phase 5 with movie opener Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel Studios has been going downhill in terms of releasing higher quality films and series from their end. Apart from the divisive fan reactions, the Ant-Man threequel had been declared a box office failure, a first from Marvel.

Kevin Feige may have been continuously addressing the superhero fatigue amongst moviegoers, but so far, his claims on not wasting a dime in creating the MCU films and series have yet to spark a better future for Marvel Studios to head towards. This ambition has now transformed their initial plan of releasing multiple shows and films this Multiverse Saga into a limit of two series and three movies.

“Marvel’s target output has been reduced.” Jeff Sneider recently revealed on The Hot Mic podcast, “I don’t know if this has been reported, or if this was a line in the trades, or whatever, but I’m told that the target output has been reduced from four shows and four movies a year to two shows and three movies a year. And of course, that’s malleable. You could get one on either side of that, or whatever.”

Considering that The Marvels, for example, was moved from its initial release date in June and is now slated to premiere in November this year, says a lot on how Marvel is taking care of what Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania lacked, mostly in the area of ensuring that the VFX of the film is taken seriously.

It is worth mentioning though that this is one of the many reasons former Marvel Exec Victoria Alonso got sacked from the company, seeing as they are purposely hiring inexperienced directors so that Marvel would still have the creative control over the releasing MCU films. As to whether or not this has been addressed, nothing has been confirmed yet.

As of writing, the films expected to release this year are as follows: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 slated to premiere on May 5 with The Marvels scheduled to release in November. Meanwhile, the two series coming on Disney+ this year are Loki Season 2 and Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 21.
