It’s still a year before the anime’s 25th anniversary, but One Piece is celebrating early with a cool new video. This One Piece 25th-anniversary celebration video stars Mackenyu, the actor who played Zoro in Netflix’s live-action show.
This video was shared on the official One Piece YouTube channel, and it features other popular actors. It is also split into five parts, each of which is focused on one part of the franchise.
One Piece Live-Action Star Mackenyu Promotes One Piece Volume 107
Mackenyu is probably the biggest name in the celebration video. After all, he played the fan-favorite Zoro in the One Piece live-action series to acclaim from critics and fans.
Before his turn as Zoro though, Mackenyu was already a big name among anime fans. After all, he has played various live-action roles in the past years such as Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist and Okuyasu in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
In this new video, Mackenyu doesn’t play the iconic green-haired pirate hunter. Instead, he plays himself as he reads One Piece Volume 107 – the manga’s latest volume release.
Mackenyu speaks Japanese in this clip. For newer fans of the actor, this might be a trip to hear given how Mackenyu speaks English in his latest projects.
Based on this clip alone, it seems that Mackenyu is only there to promote the new volume. But this clip is part of a longer video that highlights the other popular pillars of the One Piece franchise.

Shueisha, Toei, and Bandai Namco Collaborate on One Piece 25th Anniversary Video
For this video, Shueisha, Toei, and Bandai Namco teamed up to highlight the franchise’s key pillars. Mackenyu’s part was shown first, and it highlights the original manga by Eiichiro Oda and Shueisha.
Next, Bandai leads by highlighting the One Piece card game and the various games in the franchise (branded under Bandai Namco). The card game part also features Akio Otsuka who voices Blackbeard.
The last two parts showcase the anime films and the TV anime. Toei is the brand used for the film portion while Toei Animation is used for the anime series.

It might be a bit confusing for some to see a 25th anniversary celebration video given that the series already hit the milestone last year.
The anniversary celebration last year was for the manga which began in 1997. This new one is instead for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the anime, which is officially on October 20, 2024.
