Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Offers Warm Words To WGA Writers On Strike: ‘I Am In Full Support’

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy talked about speaking for the writers involved in the WGA strike, where she, too, also hopes for writers to get what they deserve.

She emphasized seeking an ‘environment where people can talk about complicated issues right now that are affecting the entire industry.’

“When it comes to acknowledging the importance of writing, I think everybody up here has demonstrated that you can’t do any of those without great writing.” Kennedy said at the Cannes Film Festival (via Collider).

The Lucasfilm president added: “So, all of us, who make movies, who create anything on television, I am in full support. I know most people are in full support of the writers getting what they deserve.”

Kennedy also shared her grievances in understanding how the industry is attempting to juggle writers being impacted by technology:

“That’s going to take time. And I think that’s what everybody’s getting ready for,”

She continued, “Take the time that’s necessary to try to make sure that everybody can articulate what those feelings are and try to arrive at a resolution around alignment.”

The controversial Lucasfilm boss had been a subject of divisive reactions from fans due to executive decisions made in expanding the Star Wars universe.

One of those controversial decisions happens to involve reportedly shelving Luke Skywalker from making any more appearances in future content.

While this has yet to come to fruition, this wouldn’t be the first time the Star Wars fans would wish to oust her from the position.

Seeing as the WGA writers’ strike is an ongoing cause, some of the upcoming Star Wars shows had to halt production, including The Mandalorian Season 4, Andor Season 2, The Acolyte, and more.

It is worth mentioning that Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy managed to complete the scripts ahead of the strike.

Although, it still calls to hold production, given that potential rewrites would not be addressed without the scribes at present.

In the meantime, Ahsoka is reportedly expected to be released on Disney+ on August 31 this year. Stay tuned for more updates on this story!
