The first 3 episodes of the Constellation series center on Jo's (played by Noomi Rapace) journey from being an astronaut out in space to her return to Earth with chunks of her memory gone.

We could have guessed this from the start, but episode 3, titled Somewhere in Space Hangs My Heart, leans more into Jo as an unreliable narrator.

We can see this in her attempt to remember whether or not she actually saw a dead USSR cosmonaut floating by the space station. And did it have anything to do with the accident? She can't be sure.

When Jo and her fellow astronauts are asked about what might have caused the collision damage on their mission, Jo says a "human body."

Due to the unlikelihood of an unclaimed corpse floating about in space, the authorities refuse to believe her story.

However, a clue arises when Russian austronaut Irena Lysenko (Barbara Sukowa) visits Henry Caldera (Jonathan Banks) in his home.

Lysenko mentions her late sister, which to fans seems somehow connected to the case of lost cosmonaut.

Based on this, some fans have a hunch who the lost cosmonaut at the heart of Constellation's mystery could be.

After bingeing the first 3 episodes of Constellation, some fans are leaning toward the theory that the lost USSR cosmonauts may be the "doppelgängers" or alternate versions of our protagonists from the "main" timeline of the series.

While the Apple TV show has yet to fully unveil its plot, fans have picked up on the trail of clues left by the writers. For example, some suggest the reason Jo's memories are scattered is because of the fracture in time and space Henry's device appears to have caused.

Take note that at one point in the episode, Henry gets called "Bud", which appears to be his name in the alternate universe – or in one of them – if you subscribe to this theory.

However, it is worth mentioning that these are just fan theories and both Apple TV and Constellation's showrunners have kept mum on the subject.

Constellation still has five episodes left to finish the story, which leaves room to expand on what exactly Jo has been seeing in her flashbacks.

Meanwhile, fans can stream the first three episodes of the Constellation series on Apple TV+.
