One of the biggest mysteries that Loki season 2 has yet to address is who pruned Loki during the premiere episode when he time-slipped to the future and saw Sylvie in an elevator in the TVA before he was pruned by a mysterious character.

A lot of fans have shared their theories and speculations online surrounding the identity behind the character responsible for his pruning that resulted in his return to the present time of the premiere episode and reuniting with Mobius.

Now, the recently-aired fourth episode has finally addressed the mystery and the answer may not surprise you.

The revelation came as Loki and Sylvie were trying to rescue Victor Timely from Ravonna Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and X-5, who kidnapped him as they were trying to take over the management of the TVA.

After being separated in the elevator thanks to Miss Minutes' manipulation of the system, Loki took the stairs and saw his previous version of himself in front of the elevator as he arrived on the floor.

Loki quickly realized that he was holding the pruning stick and this is the moment where they revealed that it was he who pruned himself during the premiere episode.

Sylvie eventually opened the elevator and was confused for a moment about the pruning. Then, Loki answered the telephone. OB was on the other line, informing them that he needed to reboot the system to keep Miss Minutes from interfering with their task.

Loki and Sylvie were able to continue their rescue of Timely by enchanting X-5 (which became possible since magic was temporarily available while the system was being rebooted) and had him prune Renslayer.

A lot of fan theories online were right along with this revelation that it was Loki who pruned himself during the second season premiere episode and it was an answer that made sense now that we know the context of the entire situation.

While there are some wild theories and possibilities about the identity behind it, it became obvious to many fans since OB said in the premiere episode that Loki had to prune himself in order for their plan to work on fixing his time-slipping problem.

One mystery has now been crossed off the list and there are still more questions that the season needs to solve and, hopefully, they will be able to give us the resolution in the last two episodes.
