Last year, Mortal Kombat reboot was a breath of fresh air when it arrived last year, both in theaters and on HBO Max, simultaneously. It was experimented on and it proved to be a success for the film in both forms of release. That, itself, guaranteed a sequel with the return of Lewis Tan as Cole Young.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Lewis Tan finally speaks up regarding how the Warner Bros. Discovery merger will be affecting the sequel, "Well, it impacts a lot, but not really us in particular because New Line is the studio that is under the branch of Warner Bros."

Tan added that the success of the movie pays off for the sequel, "They're very happy with the movie, and obviously, it performed really well. It's one of the most-viewed films of their Warner Bros. Slate, even though it came out at the worst time ever possible."

Teasing a huge sequel ahead, Tan hypes everyone up for the movie, "We're full steam ahead. And now, we have Ed Boon with us as well, so we got the stamp of approval from the legend himself. #2 is just going to be absolutely insane. Way bigger."

For those who aren't aware who Ed Boon is, he is a video game programmer, the creator of Mortal Kombat, itself, alongside John Tobias, so that stamp of approval from him means everything because what better way to ensure the best adaptation without the creator's approval, right?

Simon McQuoid returns to the director's chair for Mortal Kombat 2 and he will be joined by Moon Knight's Jeremy Slater who will pen the script for the sequel. Given Slater's approach on how to tell things, expect a rollercoaster ride for the upcoming sequel.

Mortal Kombat goes around how Cole Young will be discovering his lineage after growing up as an orphan and becoming an MMA fighter. In the first movie, he finally found out what makes him special as he gets involved in the mix of fighters around the world like Jax, and Sonya Blade.

Mortal Kombat 2 has no release date yet.
