Last year, it was reported that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover took over the reins on the long-gestated Star Wars spinoff project Lando, which will center on the fan-favorite character with the former reprising the role from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Months after the Glover brothers' involvement was reported, it was confirmed that the project is now a feature film instead of a Disney+ series, which was originally conceived in its early development.

As we've seen with the Glover brothers' previous works on Atlanta, Swarm, and the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, they are talented creative minds who have original visions and fans are interested to see how their involvement will play out.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter promoting the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series with his co-star Maya Erskine, Donald Glover opened up about his decision to take over the Lando movie project.

"Maya and I talk about nos a lot, it’s the only power you have in this industry. But I said yes because I like the characters and my kids love Star Wars," he said.

He explained that he wanted to pursue the project as he believed that it had the potential to be great and a creative control over it.

"Yeah, and at this point, I just know when something’s going to be good, because you’re really fighting the industry when you [put your imprint on a franchise of that magnitude]," he continued.

"And it’s not like... I was going to say, and it’s not like I hate the industry, but now I’m like, 'Do I hate the industry?' I feel like I have enough control. And maybe you get painted as a control freak, but it’s like, yeah, control allows for the vision to be singular. And if the vision is singular, people want it more."

Since Glover is currently attached to many projects and Lucasfilm is also working on many upcoming movies at the moment, it might take a while before the Lando movie comes to fruition.

It is encouraging to hear that he will have creative control over the project and it would be interesting to see if it will remain that way since we've seen many situations in the past where a writer/director has creative differences with Lucasfilm and ultimately leave their project.

Hopefully, we won't see any conflicts or obstacles in the development of the project since it really has the potential to be unique and creative based alone on what Glover has done in the past as a creator.
