One of the live-action Star Wars shows that has been in the works for a while is Lando which will center on the fan-favorite character Lando Calrissian. However, since the project's announcement back in late 2020, there haven't been any significant updates about its development.

Months ago, the project was seemingly gaining traction again as Donald Glover, who played the character in Solo, indicated in an interview that he is open to reprising the role and has also been in talks with Lucasfilm.

Meanwhile, Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien, who was initially tapped to pen the series, said in a recent interview that he is not sure about the current status of the project as there has been no movement on his side.

Now, it looks like the project underwent a major change as reports have revealed that a new pair of familiar writers will now be penning the series instead.

Above the Line has confirmed that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover were tapped by Lucasfilm to take over the writing duties for Lando. The former is likely to reprise the role in the series as well.

The siblings' involvement in the project has been top-secret for months since they signed up to write the series before the writers' strike commenced last May.

Simien, who was attached to write the series back when the project was announced back in 2020, left the project last year in order to focus more on his directorial work in Haunted Mansion.

Since Lucasfilm is eager to move forward with the project, they approached the Glover brothers to write the series and their pitch for the project got the studio excited. It obviously helps that Donald has already played the character in Solo so he has strong familiarity with the world already.

Donald and Stephen have collaborated on a number of projects in the past such as Atlanta (which the former created and starred in), Swarm, and Guava Island. This will mark their first involvement together in a franchise property.

This is certainly an exciting and intriguing update about the project since it sounds like Glover will now take it upon himself to make sure that the series will happen and we have seen in his past works that he always has a strong vision that could make this series special.

Hopefully, the siblings will get the full support from Lucasfilm on their vision and the project won't receive the same fate as some of the canceled Star Wars projects that looked promising at the beginning before they were shelved.
