Who Is Lambda in The Eminence in Shadow?
Lambda is a 23-year-old dark elf. Her name represents the 11th letter of the Greek alphabet (Λ or "Λάμδα").
This demonstrates her status as the 11th member of Cid Kagenou's Shadow Garden organization.
She is a drill instructor who trains the new Shadow Garden recruits. Before joining the organization, Lambda used to live in the Velgatta Empire. However, she was possessed by demons.
The Seven Shadows — Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta — rescued her and recruited her into the Shadow Garden.
In Season 2 of the isekai anime, Lambda is shown to be a hardened warrior who is in favor of killing Rose Oriana aka number 666 after her betrayal.
She and Epsilon are baffled by Cid's choice not to punish Rose.
What Happened to Lambda's Eye? Fan Theories Explained
For unconfirmed reasons, Lambda keeps her right eye closed at all times. Her affliction or injury is not widely known, but it is implied that the Seven Shadows know what happened to Lambda's eye.
Originally, some fans of The Eminence in Shadow theorized that Lambda's eyes were gouged out by members of the Cult of Diablos, or even that her missing eye could indicate a token of her former demon possession.
The Eminence in Shadow RPG video game seems to go with the eye injury theory, based on a brief conversation between Lambda and Cid.
What makes this theory a bit confusing is that Lambda is never seen wearing an eye patch as one might expect.
However, it is not unthinkable if you take anime conventions into account. Some blind anime characters might simply keep their eyes closed at all times, as is the case with Nunnally in Code Geass.
The anime adaptation of The Eminence in Shadow, however, suggests a possible magical explanation for Lambda's permanently closed eye.
In the ending credits of The Eminence in Shadow Season 1 Episode 22, Lambda momentarily opens her right eye to reveal a shape that looks like a magical seal, shaped similarly to a triforce.
Whether or not she retains her sight from that eye, and how, hasn't been confirmed.
However, the revelation suggests that there is strong magic associated with Lambda's eye.
Perhaps opening her eye could make the power uncontrollable, which is why she keeps it shut.
Her reappearance in Season 2 might be foreshadowing a tough situation whereby using her eye will be the only option.
