Who Is Sherry Barnett?
In The Eminence in Shadow, Sherry is a prominent researcher, who later becomes a professor in the academic city of Laugus despite only being 17.
Before she gets there, however, she goes through a grueling character arc as the Cult of Diablos targets her and her research upon finding out that she was tasked with examining the control relic, one of the Cult's artifacts.
The Eminence in Shadow: What Happened to Sherry?
Sherry's ordeal in Season 1 of the isekai anime begins when Rex, a member of the cult, attacks her to take the relic back from her. Ultimately, she is forced to activate the relic.
Her misadventure leads to a conflict between Shadow and Sherry's stepfather, Ruslan, who only dated Sherry's now-dead mother because he was interested in her research.
When she opposed his methods and decided not to continue the project, Ruslan murdered her and adopted Sherry to use her as a pawn for further research.
With Ruslan dead, Sherry can continue her research elsewhere, though she regrets having to leave Cid behind. However, watching Shadow kill her stepfather traumatized her despite the latter's evil deeds.
Her appearance in the first season's finale reveals that her mental state is deteriorating, and she wants to kill Shadow, not knowing that he is Cid.

Sherry's last appearance heavily implies that she will return, perhaps as a temporary antagonist.
