The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special confirms Kevin Bacon’s actual appearance in the film. As Kevin Bacon had been initially referenced in the Guardians franchise, the actor reveals he was not informed about it before the film release. The actor recalls his reaction to his first time hearing the Guardians of the Galaxy referencing him.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Kevin Bacon reveals that while he has worked with James Gunn before, the actor had no idea he was going to be name-dropped in the Guardians of the Galaxy project. So you can tell how shocked Kevin Bacon was to have heard his name being referenced. Check out his full reaction below:
“I went to the theater opening weekend, having worked with [director] James Gunn — we had been in touch and he never warned me that this was coming. I had no idea, and I sat there and all of a sudden, they’re talking about me and my jaw just dropped.”

James Gunn had worked with the Footloose star in his 2010 film Super, which centered Rainn Wilson’s character, an average man who decides to fight crime. While it did not become a box office hit, it surely impacted its critics and audiences, which eventually led Gunn to land his next project, Guardians of the Galaxy.
While the filmmaker grew fond of his friendship and respect towards Bacon, perhaps this was his way of appreciating the actor, by referencing him in the Guardians franchise as Peter Quill’s (played by Chris Pratt) idolized hero from before he was abducted from Earth.
Of course, Kevin Bacon’s shocked reaction is understandable, yet somehow, this very reference eventually lands him his entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s holiday special for the Guardians.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to be released this November 25 on Disney Plus.
