The Flash featured cameo appearances of various characters from past DC movies and TV shows such as the likes of Christopher Reeve's Superman, Adam West's Batman, and Helen Slater's Supergirl.

However, one of the notable absences that fans pointed out is Grant Gustin's The Flash from the recently-concluded CW series. His omission was surprising for some considering that the two versions of the Flash have appeared together before in the Crisis on Infinite Earths Arrowverse event.

A lot of fans have argued that it should have been a no-brainer to include Gustin as one of the cameos in the film and it would have been an awesome moment to see them share a brief moment again.

Now, the CW star has finally explained why he wasn't part of the DCEU movie.

During his recent panel at GalaxyCon Columbus 2023 (via @flashfacts4real on Instagram), Gustin addressed his omission in DCEU's The Flash where he revealed that he was never approached to appear in the movie.

"Never any, at least no one officially, ever called me in as far as I know. My reps never told me if they did. So yeah, no, no one ever reached out to me about the movie," he said.

As it turns out, the filmmakers seemingly never considered the idea of having Gustin appear in the movie as they did not approach him to ask if he was interested or if he was available to shoot his cameo.

It is a disappointing tidbit to hear for fans since it shows that a cameo from Gustin was never happening no matter what and it's also jarring considering that most of the cameos in the film were CGI resurrections from older DC properties.

Some fans would also argue that perhaps Gustin dodged the bullet since the film ended up becoming a box office flop and his absence might not be a bigger missed opportunity than some might think.

Now, with the upcoming DCU reboot, any possibilities of multiverse crossovers anytime soon have been closed since the franchise will likely introduce a new version of the Scarlet Speedster and won't bring back anyone from the past iterations.

The Flash is available to stream on Max.
