Is Nick Fury A Skrull?

Nick Fury is a man who trusts no one, not even himself. In spite of that, he managed to build his own team consisting of Maria Hill, Everett Ross, the Avengers, among others, and of course, even with the Skrulls, specifically rooting with Talos.

Considering not many are aware of who Nick Fury really is, apart from being the (former) director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and founder of the Avengers, you might also be wondering if he is even human.

Secret Invasion is now available to stream on Disney Plus, Fury has just returned to Earth to rebuild his reputation from staying with the Skrulls refugees in space for far too long.

We are about to learn far more about the man before we get to see him again in The Marvels. Now, the question is, is Nick Fury actually a Skrull?

Skrulls are these green-colored creatures who once resided in their home planet called Skrullos.

Their existence was first made canon in the Captain Marvel movie, where we first found out that Skrulls are not inherently ‘bad’. Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) was the testimony to that.

They are, after all, simply in search of their own home at the time, after the Kree destroyed their home planet.

Of course, this wasn’t an easy task, convincing Carol Danvers and Nick Fury that the Skrulls meant no harm to humans or planet Earth. It didn’t help either that the Skrulls were using their shapeshifting abilities to go about the planet.

Needless to say, their abilities have proven quite useful for Fury and a couple of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents along the way.

When Fury was being scanned in Captain Marvel, he was classified as ‘human male species’ and his threat being ‘low to none.’ So, this pretty much is proof that, for starters, Fury is all human.

But when Spider-Man: Far From Home featured a post-credits scene in which the Nick Fury and Maria Hill we thought we had been following in the story turned out to be the Skrulls, Talos and his wife Soren (Sharon Blynn), fans may be wondering, how long has Fury been working as a Skrull in the MCU thus far?

The Skrulls, after all, were the ones instructed by Fury to hand over the E.D.I.T.H. (Even in Death I am The Hero) glasses Tony Stark wanted to give to Peter Parker. And they were also the ones in charge of updating Fury on what occurs on earth.

Meanwhile, we got to see a glimpse into what Fury had been up to this whole time: commandeering the Skulls’ station, S.A.B.E.R., somewhere in space.

In Secret Invasion Episode 1, once Fury landed on Earth to be welcomed by Maria Hill, she confirmed that they had been in no contact for the last five years and that Fury had somehow changed since he returned from The Blip incident.

To that, Fury answered, he may have lost faith after The Blip happened.

Do take note that Far From Home occurred after the event of The Blip brought back those who turned into dust to humans, aka in Avengers: Endgame.

Given that Fury has been in no contact with his best trusted agents for the last five years, including The Blip, many characters in Secret Invasion (Sonya Falsworth and Maria Hill, for example) have lost faith that Fury would be able to defend humanity seeing that he had come home to a changed world he hasn't nurtured in years.

Let's not forget that Samuel L. Jackson himself said that Secret Invasion is meant to show just how human Nick Fury is (via Empire Magazine):

"One of the things we really wanted to bring to this show that makes it a little bit unique in the Marvel universe is vulnerability. Nick Fury is just a human, Maria Hill is just a human. A single bullet could take them out. That's something we don't always get in the MCU. To bring that level of tension, fear and vulnerability into one of our shows was really exciting."

Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, WandaVision, and Secret Invasion are the few MCU films and series that have introduced and revealed who else are secretly Skrulls in the MCU timeline.

WandaVision introduced another Skrull who was portraying herself to be one of the FBI Agents working behind the scenes, just as she was ordered by Nick Fury to let Monica Rambeau know that she is needed on a mission, which we’ll likely see come together in The Marvels.

Aside from Fury and Hill’s disguise as Skrulls in Far From Home, Secret Invasion has revealed that Everett Ross was a Skrull who stole information from Prescod in Episode 1.

Technically, Ross is NOT a Skrull, but it is likely he was stashed away in the new Skrullos hideout on earth, given that when Skrulls take over someone else's form, they have to keep the living being alive.

Secret Invasion Episode 2 reveals more Skrulls have been hiding in plain sight on earth. In fact, as Talos confirmed, millions of Skrulls are crawling amidst the human race and some of them have already infiltrated major roles on the council board.

Not to mention, even Nick Fury's wife, Priscilla Fury, has been revealed to be a Skrull.

Talos had returned once again in the MCU series to fight alongside Fury after his return to Earth. Not to mention, G’iah, Gravik, and their ever-growing Skrull population in favor of blowing up the Earth to make their new Skrullos.
