The trailer for The Marvels shows Nick Fury in a space station introduced as the "S.A.B.E.R. Space Station." In Secret Invasion's premiere, S.A.B.E.R. is mentioned. So, what is S.A.B.E.R. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)?
In the first episode of Secret Invasion, we're told that Nick Fury is on S.A.B.E.R. But Fury comes down to Earth to prevent a Skrull invasion.
In The Marvels trailer, Nick Fury can be seen working alongside Monica Rambeau, who's referred to as a “S.A.B.E.R. astronaut” in the film's official synopsis.
So, what is S.A.B.E.R. in Marvel? And how does it differ from S.W.O.R.D., the organization that was introduced in WandaVision?

What is S.A.B.E.R.?
In Secret Invasion, when Rhodey reports to US President Ritson that they received word that Fury left S.A.B.E.R., Ritson responds, "Agent Fury is building up the most complex aerospace defense system in the history of mankind."
Apart from that, we do not know much yet about S.A.B.E.R., only that it's run by Nick Fury. There’s no organization called S.A.B.E.R. in Marvel Comics. Thus, S.A.B.E.R. is an original concept created for the MCU.
The meaning of the acronym remains unknown for now, but based on The Marvels trailer, S.A.B.E.R. seems to be doing what S.W.O.R.D. does: protecting Earth from extraterrestrial threats.
In The Marvels trailer, agents of S.A.B.E.R. address space threats, which is supposed to be S.W.O.R.D.’s job.
Since S.A.B.E.R. appears to have the same functions as S.W.O.R.D., S.A.B.E.R. could be an organization that replaces S.W.O.R.D. in the MCU, or it could be an extension of the already-existing organization.
S.W.O.R.D. in the MCU Explained
S.W.O.R.D., or the “Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division,” was created by Maria Rambeau (Monica’s mother) after the events of Captain Marvel.
After learning about the existence of alien threats, Maria created an organization that would protect Earth from such threats.
S.W.O.R.D. made its debut in the MCU in WandaVision. Tyler Hayward became its Acting Director after Maria passed away.
In the series, S.W.O.R.D. began a project that would reactivate Vision. S.W.O.R.D., along with the FBI, also began an investigation into the peculiarities surrounding Westview after its residents disappeared.
Later on, it was revealed that Hayward was corrupt, and he was taken into custody at the end of the series.
In the mid-credits scene of WandaVision, a Skrull agent tells Monica that she was sent by “an old friend of your mother’s.”
She adds, “He heard you’ve been grounded. He’d like to meet with you.” Monica asks where they would meet, and the Skrull points up, which suggests outer space.
From The Marvels trailer, we know that Nick Fury and Monica are working at the “S.A.B.E.R. Space Station”.

S.A.B.E.R. May Be an Extension of S.W.O.R.D.
S.A.B.E.R. could be an extension of S.W.O.R.D., not a replacement. Since they deal with similar threats, this could mean that S.A.B.E.R. works alongside S.W.O.R.D., but it's based in space for specific reasons.
The Marvels trailer shows that a number of space adventures will take place. So, it would definitely help to have a space station run by Nick Fury.
We have yet to find out more about S.A.B.E.R. and what it means in the upcoming movie The Marvels.
