Next month, the short-form animated series I Am Groot will return for more adventures and hijinks with the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy member, and, unlike any other MCU show, this project is more self-contained as it won't have any ramifications to the rest of the franchise.
While we can expect more one-off stories with Baby Groot in the new season, some fans are also wondering whether they will also feature more familiar elements from the MCU since the first one feature a cameo from Rocket.
Now, as we're heading closer to its release on Disney+, we finally have our sneak peek at the new batch of episodes and it looks like a beloved MCU character will make a special appearance in the upcoming season.
The Watcher Returns in I Am Groot Season 2
Marvel Studios recently released the trailer for the second season of I Am Groot which revealed that What If...? character The Watcher is set to make an appearance in one of the new episodes.
Jeffrey Wright is expected to reprise the voice role in the series. While we don't know the character will play into the story, we can safely say that he will be watching one of Groot's adventures and perhaps give a narration like in What If...?
This will mark the character's next MCU appearance following the first season of What If...? back in 2021. His return was also reportedly recently although it was unknown during that time which series is he set to appear in.
While the character might only show up for a brief amount of time in the new season of I Am Groot, it is still exciting that we will see him again this year, especially with the long wait that we've been having for the second season of What If...?
It is curious to see whether The Watcher will either only watch Groot's adventure in one of the episodes or he will also interfere which we have seen him do during the last parts of the first season of What If...?

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that The Watcher's cameo in the new season posed a lot of interesting questions, but given that the series doesn't have any stakes with the rest of the MCU, it could also just be a fun easter egg for fans who have been following the animated side of the franchise.
The second season of I Am Groot is set to release on Disney+ this September 6.
